Yun Nan (云南) Province, where lies the famous Shangri-La (香格里拉), is along the west-south boarder of China. It's a pretty place with lots of amazing nature scene. (The headline picture is of the farmland there.) However, it's lagged in economic development. People there put little emphasis on education. In villages, parents prefer their children to working early rather than finishing middle/ high school.
I taught as an volunteer teacher in the summer of 2011 in Yu Qing Primary School (虞情小学) in Xiang Yun County (祥云县).
